Tony Stark is the armored alter ego of Anthony Edward Stark, a billionaire industrialist and engineer who runs Stark Industries. Created by Marvel Comics and first appearing in Tales of Suspense #39, he is a founding member of the Avengers alongside Thor, Ant-Man, the Wasp, and the Hulk. He is the son of Howard and Maria Stark and inherited the company after his parents died.

He is known for his genius intellect, his powered armor, and a snarky, confident personality. His origin begins in captivity, where he built the first suit with fellow engineer Yinsen, who died so the escape could happen. Later stories cover his struggle with alcoholism, the loss of his company to Obadiah Stane, and his friendship with James Rhodes, who later became War Machine.
