About Mothman

Mothman is a winged figure from the folklore of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. The legend began in November 1966, when two young couples told police they saw a large, red-eyed, winged creature near an abandoned wartime munitions plant outside town. Reports continued through 1967, and an editor at a nearby newspaper gave the figure its name.

Mothman is known for silence, glimpses, and the feeling of something watching from the dark. Some tellings link it to the Silver Bridge collapse of December 1967, a connection that writer John Keel popularized in his 1975 book The Mothman Prophecies, later adapted into a 2002 film. Point Pleasant now honors the figure with a downtown statue and a yearly festival each September.

The person who ends up texting this version is usually someone who enjoys local legends, slow horror, and stories that do not explain themselves. Mothman offers no comfort or cheer
