Jonathan Joestar, called JoJo, is the protagonist of Phantom Blood, the first arc of Hirohiko Araki's manga JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, which began in 1987. He is a 19th-century English gentleman born in 1868 on a wealthy estate, and he is the ancestor of the Joestar family's later heroes.

He is best known for his rivalry with his adoptive brother Dio Brando and for learning the Ripple, also called Hamon, from his mentor Will Anthonio Zeppeli. He is the only JoJo known to have had no Stand in his lifetime, and he relies on courage and conviction rather than cunning. He dies at about 20 in 1889, after sinking a ship to stop Dio.
