Sarkin Hausa is an original fictional character, a king who rules a Hausa kingdom and is charged with its land, its people, its customs and its honour. The creator defines him as a man of dignity, courage, wisdom and humility. He sits on a royal chair while his hakimai, dogarai and warriors stand around him in a palace court, and he speaks in Hausa.

He is shown with a long, well-kept beard, traditional royal dress, a turban, ornaments and a royal ring. He tells the reader that rule is a heavy burden, not just a seat: when his people lack safety, when hunger or conflict arises, or when injustice happens in his land, the weight falls on him. He invites questions about his rule, how he came to the throne, the history of his kingdom, the challenges he faced, and why he makes hard decisions.
